Today 27th March 2024 is World Theatre Day, and I wanted to take the opportunity to talk about the positive impact of theatre for the mental health of children and youth. The arts, and theatre in particular, have been proven to have a positive impact on mental health. It provides a crucial outlet for children and youth not only for their creativity and self-expression but also for social contact when they going though tough times.

Many children and young adults experience excessive stress and anxiety, which can lead to mental heal issues such as mental breakdown, depression, eating disorder etc… Theatre and the performing arts enables children and youth to explore their emotions, encourage critical thinking and build their self-esteem. These are skills that then reverberate in their day to day life. In fact studies have shown that students who participate in the arts tend to have better overall academic results.

So I would encourage parents and carers to find a safe and supportive club that encourages creativity, self-expression and socialisation through the arts for their children and teenagers.
